Please bring a list of your current medications, your insurance card, a photo ID, and any information that will help us better understand your condition, such as information about what dressings or therapies you have previously used. Also, please be prepared to make any co-payments for the office visit, as required by your insurance.
Whether or not you need a referral from your primary care physician depends on what type of health insurance you have. If Medicare is your primary insurance, you do NOT need a referral. PPO and Indemnity health insurance plans generally do not require a referral, nor does the new Harvard Pilgrim Freedom Plus Plan. Most HMOs, such as Tufts Medicare Preferred and BCBS HMO Blue or Blue Choice plans DO require a referral. If your insurance requires a referral, please contact Advanced Wound Recovery for the wound care physician’s name and provider # for your insurance. You can request a referral directly from your Primary Care Physician. Click here to download a referral form.
Visits to the wound clinic are considered by your insurance as “medical office visits”. Your visit to the clinic may be considered a “specialist office visit” if your insurance differentiates between PCP and specialist office visits. We participate with most major insurance plans, including (but not limited to) Aetna, BCBS (except for Blue Care 65), Cigna, Fallon, GHI, Harvard Pilgrim, Mass Health/Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, Tufts, United Health Care, Wausau/Fiserv Health, among others.
Our clinic is fully accessible by wheelchair. If possible, we prefer it if you are able to transfer from your wheelchair into our treatment chair during your visit, so that we may best position you for treatment. If transfer to the treatment chair is not possible, we can probably treat you from your wheelchair.
Our clinic is fully accessible to patients arriving by ambulance on a stretcher. Ambulances are required to enter the building through the Ambulance Entrance in the rear of the main building.
Ikram Farooqi, MD, CWS, is our Medical Director and primary physician. Dr. Farooqi is a Medical Doctor board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, he is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, and he is also a Certified Wound Specialist, a certification issued by the American Academy of Wound Management.
The length of time required to heal a wound is entirely dependent on the type of wound and individual circumstances. Throughout the course of your treatment, we will discuss goals for your treatment as well as reasonable expectations for the time it should take to achieve those goals.
